Making new planting beds…

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

As I mentioned in the previous post, last weekend, we went up to Granny’s to split some hostas. They were getting too big for her planting bed, and she was willing to share. Actually, she got them from us when we split the hostas at one of the houses we rented in Spring Lake. So, with a little shovel work, we had them split and rearranged in her beds. We loaded them up into old kitty litter buckets to take home.

When we had them home, we made a bed in front of our patio. That required us to tear up the grass. So, I cut it up into chunks with the spade, and while I mowed, Jeanne tore up the sod and knocked most of the dirt out of the roots. With a quick layout, I dug some holes and they were planted. They look really good there, don’t you think? Now I just need to fix the sprinkler head there so they will actually get some water. I was going to do that today, but it’s raining. So, no need.

While I mowed the back yard, Jeanne also planted some lily bulbs in the corner flower bed in the back yard. It was a variety pack with Stargazers and two other kinds. Stargazers are her favorites. I don’t know how long it will take for them to come up, but I’m sure we’ll have pictures of them when they do.

If you would like to see the rest of the pictures, including some large night crawlers I found while raking up some leaves, click here.

Scout’s Birthday

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Today is Scout’s birthday. He’s 7. For a dog his size, he’s officially a senior. However, I don’t think he’s ready to retire yet. He’s still a lean, mean, fetching machine! ;)

Happy Birthday Jason!

Don’t forget to wish Jason a Happy Birthday!

New haircuts…

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Last weekend I decided it was time to do something different with my hair (what’s left of it). So, I got, more or less, a buzz cut. It’s a little longer on the top then the sides, so it’s not a true buzz. The next time I go to the barber I think I’ll get the real thing. Then, assuming I still like it, I’ll make the investment in a clippers and do it myself. Actually Jeanne will probably do it.

So far, I like it. It’s nice to get out of the shower, run a towel through it, and be done.

One funny thing is that after getting my hair cut, we went up to Granny’s to split some of her hostas and have dinner with the family. As it tunes out, Jason and Josh both did the same thing recently. Dad has always had a flat-top, and Jason has had fairly short hair for a while. Josh was new. So, we decided to take a group shot. And, of course, everyone wanted to see what we looked like from the top. I wasn’t impressed! ;)
